Decades of Experience. One Strategic Conversation.

Portrait of Joel Bissitt VFP

Joel Bissitt VFP

Co-Founder | Entrepreneur | Franchise Growth & International Expansion Strategist

Joel Bissitt brings more than 35 years of entrepreneurial experience and over 25 years working in franchising, combining the perspective of a business owner with the commercial knowledge of a franchise developer, investor and industry leader.

Unlike advisers whose experience is limited to consultancy, Joel has built and operated businesses, been a franchisor himself and developed an extensive portfolio of franchise-related companies serving the UK and international markets.

He founded Franchise UK in 2004, building a platform connecting franchise brands with prospective investors and operators. He subsequently established the Quality Franchise Association (QFA) in 2018, an organisation focused on raising standards and supporting franchising across international markets.

The QFA has since grown into QFA Global, founded by Joel, which now operates in 45 countries, giving him a genuinely international view of how franchise brands are evaluated, funded and developed.

As the founder of Infinity Franchising Group, Joel has been involved in franchise development, recruitment, commercial strategy, marketing and network expansion across multiple sectors, including leisure, hospitality, home services, healthcare and business services.

His experience includes working directly with ambitious franchise brands to refine their business models, strengthen their commercial propositions, attract franchise investors and develop sustainable expansion strategies.

A recent example is Continue Arcades, where Joel and his colleagues helped transform an emerging leisure concept into a rapidly expanding UK franchise network, with a substantial pipeline of further locations under development.

Through his businesses, professional relationships and international franchise platforms, Joel has developed an extensive network of franchise operators, advisers, investors and industry contacts.

At The Franchise Boardroom, Joel brings a commercial and entrepreneurial perspective to strategic decisions. His focus is on identifying opportunities, challenging assumptions and helping established franchisors build stronger, more profitable and more scalable businesses.

For international brands considering the United Kingdom, he offers practical insight into the UK franchise market, franchise investor expectations, recruitment strategy, commercial positioning and the realities of establishing a network in a new country.

“I've spent my career building businesses, not simply advising them. I believe the best strategic advice comes from understanding the opportunities, risks and decisions that business owners face themselves.”

Portrait of Ian Townsend VFP

Ian Townsend VFP

Co-Founder | Corporate & Commercial Solicitor | Franchise Legal & Business Strategy

Ian Townsend brings more than 25 years of commercial legal experience to The Franchise Boardroom, combining specialist franchise knowledge with extensive experience advising business owners on complex commercial decisions.

Ian is a Partner in the Corporate and Commercial department of a specialist law firm. Before that role, he established and successfully operated his own specialist commercial law practice for 18 years.

Throughout his career, Ian has advised on franchise structures, commercial agreements, master franchising, corporate transactions, acquisitions, disposals, business restructuring and commercial disputes.

His published professional experience includes advising on a master franchise agreement for the development of a healthcare franchise in Europe, business acquisitions and corporate restructuring, and the sale of a business group, alongside a wider record of multimillion-pound acquisitions, disposals and ownership transitions.

Ian has worked with both franchisors and franchisees, giving him an understanding of the commercial relationships, contractual obligations and potential conflicts that can arise as franchise networks expand.

He also serves as Chief Operating Officer of the Quality Franchise Association, contributing to the development of professional standards and industry relationships.

Ian's approach is deliberately commercial. Rather than treating legal questions in isolation, he considers how contractual structures, risk allocation and corporate decisions affect the wider business.

At The Franchise Boardroom, Ian brings a legal and commercial perspective to discussions about network development, franchise relationships, market-entry structures, strategic transactions and long-term business planning.

For international franchisors entering the UK, his experience provides valuable insight into the commercial and contractual considerations of establishing a British franchise operation, including master franchising, joint ventures and other expansion structures.

His contribution helps ensure that ambitious growth plans are considered alongside the commercial obligations and risks that accompany them.

Specialist legal services, where required, are subject to separate professional engagement arrangements.

Two perspectives. One boardroom.

Entrepreneurial Experience Meets Commercial Legal Expertise

Joel brings the perspective of a business builder and franchise growth strategist. Ian brings the commercial and legal judgement of a specialist solicitor.

Together, they help franchisors examine opportunities from both sides of the boardroom table — what makes commercial sense, and what needs to be considered before committing.

Expertise. Connections. Opportunities.
